You’ve been fighting so hard And it’s tearing you apart You keep biting your tongue Like a convict on the run Oh you can’t escape Until you realize what’s in the way What’s been holding you back Only you know that What’s got you in that trap Only you know that You keep searching your heart But it ain’t no deck of cards Your body’s hurting for a change Cause you’re always half-way Oh it’s just no use Until you open your eyes to the truth, of What’s been holding you back Only you know, only you know that What’s got you in that trap Only you know, only you know that Only you What’s been holding you back Only you know, only you know that What’s got you in that trap Only you know that What’s been holding you back Only you know that

Release 05:16
Wound up like a ten-day clock I keep running, can’t escape these thoughts Try to clear my head, but it can’t be washed My minds working overtime I’ve got to be easy. I don’t know how It’s just so easy when you’re around You give me release, when the world’s got a hold on me You make me believe, that there’s no part of myself that I need to hide My problems all drift away, when you’re by my side Back-and-forth like a bird in a cage Don’t know my lines, don’t know this stage My eyes locked on the mirror ‘cause I’m stuck in the past Can’t put my foot on the gas The walls are closing in, I can feel the pressure When you come around everything gets better You give me release, when the world’s got a hold on me You make me believe, that there’s no part of myself that I need to hide My problems all drift away, when you’re by my side You give me release You give me release When you found me, I was too damn proud, To admit I needed shelter from these- storm clouds You climbed my walls and took down my fences, Talk some sense into me, when I was so damn senseless Oh, you give me release, when the world’s got a hold on me You make me believe, that there’s no part of myself that I need to hide My problems all drift away, when you’re by my side

Oh sometimes I wake up, don’t wanna face the day People always telling me, ‘you’re too young to feel that way’ Put on my shoes, put on my belt, roll up my sleeves Walking to the door, still dragging my feet I know a man supposed to provide But sometimes I don’t wanna go outside I just want– Big cups of coffee, crosswords with my baby Glasses of champagne, and kisses with my lovely lady If you ask me what I’d do, if I was king of the world Probably build a big castle, so I’d never be disturbed Need a little peace, need a little quiet, need a little time to myself What I really need, someone who knows how to help I know a man supposed to be strong But sometimes I just can’t carry on I just want– I just want big cups of coffee, crosswords with my baby Glasses of champagne, and kisses with my lovely lady I might seem silly, I don’t mind Cause I’m a certified fool for you baby I’m not just talking pretty, I’m speaking truth And there’s nothing I’d rather do Oh Lord nothing I’d rather do Than have my– Big cups of coffee, crosswords with my baby Glasses of champagne, and kisses with my lovely lady I want big cups of coffee, crosswords with my baby Glasses of champagne, and kisses with my lovely lady

Sleep Talk 03:45
Dreams, every single night Scenes, moments of my life I feel, like I’ve seen this one before Real? Can’t say anymore Something’s chasing me in the night Probably safer not to close my eyes Nostalgic, I can’t handle it I’m nostalgic, why won’t you quit No, not this one again I know, it’s not happening Piece, piece by little piece I’m losing everything to my memory Something’s chasing me in the night It’s probably safer not to close my eyes Nostalgic, I can’t handle it I’m nostalgic, why won’t you quit I’m nostalgic, I can’t handle it I’m nostalgic, why won’t you quit Why won’t you quit I’m nostalgic, I can’t handle it I’m nostalgic, why won’t you quit

Evangeline 06:06
Forgive me Forgive me for what I’ve done Forgive me Forgive me for what I’ve done Don’t believe Don’t believe I didn’t need you Can’t you see Can’t you see I was saved by your love Evangeline Evangeline I’m chasing my dreams Evangeline, oh Evangeline I’m gonna beat this thing Don’t believe Don’t believe Don’t believe I didn’t need you Can’t you see Can’t you see Can’t you see I was saved by your love Oh Evangeline, I’m gonna beat this thing I’m chasing my dreams Evangeline

about

As the name suggests, DREAMS is the album singer-songwriter Austin Brockner has dreamed of creating since he began songwriting. “These are the songs as I’ve always imagined them in my head, they’re all dynamic and feel full .” Complete with a rock-solid studio band, a wealth of warm harmonies, and a 7-piece brass section, this EP is Brockner’s push to grow beyond his identity as a solo singer-songwriter.

A collection of five songs written over a two year span, DREAMS draws on a wide range of inspirations. The guitar stylings of Hendrix, brass sections of Chicago, and rich, soulful vocals of artists such as Allen Stone & Stevie Wonder are all influences for the EP.

“I see myself, and my music, as a combination of two separate ambitions: As a guitarist trying to emulate his heroes and as a singer-songwriter trying to make songs as beautiful and meaningful as the ones that inspire me.”

Never one to shy away from writing about his own experiences, DREAMS touches on themes of inhibition, love, sentimentalism, and the price of dreaming big. Brockner says, “I think the album could be appropriately summarized as a journey through love with an overarching story of self-discovery.”

The album was recorded at the world-class PULP ARTS in Gainesville,FL and produced by Grammy nominated producer Kevin Bruchert. After initially working with Kevin on a single in January of 2022, the two would team up again in April to begin recording for DREAMS.

“I had the songs ready for this project, but I had yet to meet the right person to help bring it to life. I needed someone who could help focus my ambition and ensure we didn’t lose the essence of these songs when adding all of the other instrumentation. After working with Kevin on my single, I knew we had to work together on DREAMS.”

The EP borrows heavily from the Rock N Roll and Soul genres, but each song has a distinct identity and unique sound. “This album is itself a bit of a love song to music, and all the parts that come together to make a song special”, according to Brockner.

DREAMS starts off with its most explosive song, “Holding You Back”, which is packed with major brass accompaniment and searing guitar riffs. By contrast, “Release”, with its soft, lingering vocal performance and dreamy, reverb-rich Wurlizter piano is a “laid-back love song”.

Brockner states, “I think the energy level of each song complements the songs around it, and really carries the listener along this journey with me.”

Austin Brockner is the songwriter, vocalist, and lead-guitarist of the project. The EP was produced and engineered by Kevin Bruchert, with additional engineering by Danny Clifton & Brian Moore. The studio band includes percussion by Drew Allen, keyboard by Benjamin Colburn, bass guitar by Tanner Ropp, and rhythm guitar by Josh Winter. Horn sections were composed by Marco Thomas and include Joanna Adhami, Sam Gamez, and Drew Little on saxophone, Timothy Ketterson Jr. and Vito Montauk on trumpet, & Albert Isaac and Marco Thomas on Trombone. It was mixed by Kevin Bruchert and mastered by Matthew Garber.
